Professor Rego’s research is focused on evaluating the role of transcription deregulation linking excitotoxicity, mitochondrial dysfunction and metabolic changes in cellular and animal models of neurodegenerative disorders, including Huntington’s disease, Machado-Joseph disease, Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease. Furthermore, the research group also examines the effect of neuroprotective strategies in these diseases.
